Brief: Create a mural design for their community garden that embodies the growth that would be cultivated in the space using local agriculture as illustrations.
The Marketing Manager at The LAB Portfolio of Properties had seen my 36 days of type challenge created for instagram and wanted to have a mural design inspired by my letters composed of illustrations. Designed specifically for their community garden, they wanted a phrase that embodied the growth they were cultivating in the space. They also described a desire to include illustrations of local agriculture in the design, and after only one revision the art was approved and ready to be painted.
As this was my first mural of this scope, I immediately jumped into researching tools, materials, and techniques. The design was created on my iPad and then projected onto the surface at night to trace. One of the challenges I faced during this process was that storms related to a hurricane were about to hit and I had to quickly outline the design in the outer black paint so it could dry in time before the storm hit. Luckily all went well and the research I had done on the best outdoor paint allowed it to weather any storm (pun intended).
